AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior Georges Niang has been honored as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week after leading the Cyclones to wins against Oklahoma and TCU to secure the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Championships. 

Niang led the Cyclones, averaging 21.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. The forward started the week with 23 points and eight rebounds, including 20 points in the second half, as ISU came back from a 21-point deficit in a victory over Oklahoma. He then added 19 points with six assists and four boards in a road win at TCU. Niang shot 53.3 percent in two games, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. He made all seven attempts from the free throw line and totaled 10 assists, two blocks and one steal.

Earlier Sunday, Niang was named to the All-Big 12 First Team. This was Niang’s second player of the week honor this season.

Oklahoma State’s Anthony Hickey earned the final newcomer of the week honor.
