Massive football recruiting weekend on tap at Iowa State

AMES — Positive conversations taking place around Iowa State football have been hard to come by as of late but that could all change this weekend.

Seven known official visitors will be in town when the Cyclones host Texas Tech. Six of those prospects are junior college prospects on the defensive side of the ball. Four of those six JUCO prospects are defensive linemen.

Who’s visiting?

Deonte Reynolds, DL, Contra Costa College in California – According to his profile at Rivals.com, Reynolds has additional offers from Arizona State, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Washington. He also has visits scheduled at all of those places. Consider Reynolds, a 6-foot-5, 325-pound defensive tackle, to be at the top of Paul Rhoads’ Christmas list.

Bobby Leath, DL, Coffeyville Community College in Kansas – Along with Iowa State, this 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive tackle claims an offer from Illinois.

Ricky Parks, DE, Coffeyville Community College in Kansas – This former Auburn Tiger was the top-ranked tight end in college football’s class of 2012. A teammate of Leath, Parks projects as a strongside defensive end but could possible end up in the middle as well with his impressive 6-foot-4, 275-pound frame.

Demond Tucker, DL, Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi – At 6-foot-1, 285-pounds, Tucker comes from the same JUCO that Iowa State snagged linebacker Jordan Harris from a season ago. Tucker claims over a dozen offers at this time according to his profile at Rivals.com

Matt Kellerman, OL, Butler Community College in Kansas – According to Rivals.com, Kellerman is a Tommy Mangino recruit who claims additional offers from Illinois and Louisville. Kellerman, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound prospect, projects to be a tackle at the next level.

Jomal Wiltz, CB, Trinity Valley Community College in Texas – His 5-foot-9, 170-pound frame is likely keeping the heavy hitters away. Wiltz claims offers from Cal, Middle Tennessee State, Tulsa and UNLV along with Iowa State.

GG Robinson, DE, Parkview High School in Georgia – This high school defensive lineman is currently a soft verbal to Louisville but will offically visit Iowa State, Georgia and Mississippi State.

Chris Williams

Chris was hired as Cyclone Fanatic’s publisher in the fall of 2009. He is Iowa State football's postgame show host on the Cyclone Radio Network and can be heard daily from 4-7 on Des Moines' top-rated sports station, 1460 KXnO. Williams, a 2007 graduate of Iowa State’s Greenlee School of Journalism, is the former publisher of the old CycloneNation.com (Scout.com). He has also written for the Des Moines Register, the Ames Tribune, CycloneReport.com and is the former sports director at KMA Radio. When Williams isn’t working, you can usually find him doing something outdoors with his wife Ashley, daughter Camryn, and Golden Retriever Dierks. He enjoys golfing, boating, country music, the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Braves and is passionate about any and all motor sports so finding Williams at a local dirt track is very common.
