Iowa State/Baylor depth chart changes; injury report

AMES — How about a little bit of good news on your Monday afternoon?

If you woke up today curious about the status of wide receiver Jarvis West and offensive lineman Daniel Burton for Iowa State’s showdown with No. 7 Baylor on Saturday afternoon, no worries. 

"We anticipate everybody that’s not already listed as out for the season to be ready to play," Paul Rhoads said during his weekly Monday press conference. 

Following a 20-17 victory over Iowa, Rhoads announced that offensive lineman Jacob Dunning would miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Wide receiver P.J. Harris could be out for the season as well.

The Dunning injury combined with the return of Jacob Gannon resulted in a depth chart shake-up on the offensive line. 

Junior-college transfer Wendell Taiese began the season at guard, but has not been moved to tackle. 

"Wendell had to move for depth reasons, to give us two solid guards and two solid tackles for depth reasons," Rhoads said. "Certainly when he came in, we tried to figure out what was going to be his best spot. We settled on guard but he easily could have been a tackle from day one, once he arrived."

What about Gannon, who returned to the team last week after quitting following the season opener? The 6-foot-7, 306-pound fifth-year senior is back on the depth chart, behind Jake Campos at right tackle. 

"Jacob Gannon will be ready to play, yes," Rhoads said. 

Running back

Rob Standard is no longer on Iowa State’s depth chart at running back. 

Instead, true freshman Martinez Syria is listed at fourth string behind Aaron Wimberly, DeVondrick Nealy and Tyler Brown. 

Meyers officially moves inside

This one wasn’t much of a surprise.

Defensive lineman Mitchell Meyers started at defensive tackle against Iowa and on Monday, the sophomore was listed as Iowa State’s starter at the position ahead of Robby Garcia and Pierre Aka. 

Meanwhile at left defensive end, Trent Taylor is the man with sophomore Darius White listed as his backup. Taylor, a JUCO transfer, notably started the first game of his career (at defensive end) two Saturday’s ago in Iowa City.
