AMES, Iowa – The state’s annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series clash on the gridiron is here to stay. School officials from both Iowa State and Iowa announced today that a contract extension has been signed to continue the football series through 2021.

“We are excited to extend our contract with the University of Iowa in football through the 2021 season,” Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said. “This game is very important to the residents of this state and I am pleased both institutions are committed to continuing the rivalry. Rivalry games are great for college football.”

The four-year extension begins in 2018 after the current contract expires in 2017. Iowa State will travel to Kinnick Stadium in 2018 and 2020 and will play host to the in-state rivalry in Jack Trice Stadium in 2019 and 2021.

The series was resumed annually in 1977 after a 43-year hiatus. Iowa holds a 40-21 advantage in the series. Since 1998, Iowa State has a 9-7 edge.

Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads has watched the rivalry grow through the years as a fan and coach. He understands the importance of maintaining the series for the state of Iowa.

“The Iowa State-Iowa rivalry is ingrained in this state,” Rhoads said. “It’s healthy for the state of Iowa, it’s healthy for both universities and we look forward to playing it every year.”

Iowa State concludes its season this weekend (Nov. 30) at West Virginia. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT on Fox Sports 1.
