Notebook: Transfer on campus, other nuggets

Offseason?

Ha.

Not in the recruiting world.

As it does every April, the college basketball recruiting world has a lot of moving parts right now. Transfers, coaching changes and AAU tournaments all play a part in it.

There is quite a bit happening right now and knowing that this will likely be out of date in five hours, here is a quick recap of what you currently need to know.

*** Northern Illinois transfer Abdel Nader is currently on campus in Ames. Nader, who averaged 13.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season for Northern Illinois, would have two years of eligibility at his new school. The 6-foot-7 wing would have to sit out next season.

Nader apparently chose Northern Illinois due to academic issues out of high school after being offered by the likes of Marquette, Baylor, New Mexico and USC to name a few. He is originally from Skokie, Ill.

*** If you missed this on Monday,Fred Hoiberg and T.J. Otzelberger paid 2015 point guard prospect Nick Noskowiak a visit on Tuesday morning. Noskowiak picked up a Marquette offer last weekend.

*** This is what I think could eventually be an important name to remember for 2015, via a tweet from Ryan James from Minnesota’s Rivals site.

JP Macura was offered by Drake this evening. The D1 Minnesota/Lakeville North wing also heard from Fred Hoiberg at Iowa State tonight.

Macura, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Lakeville, Minn., has the potential to be the best shooter in the class of 2014. You all know that Hoiberg likes a shooter or two. So stay tuned on that one.

*** According to the Twitter feed of Wisconsin prep guru Mark Miller (@WisBBYearbook), Iowa State recently watched 2015 Wisconsin prospects Cody Schwartz (forward) and Matt Heldt (center).

Chris Williams

Chris was hired as Cyclone Fanatic’s publisher in the fall of 2009. He is Iowa State football's postgame show host on the Cyclone Radio Network and can be heard daily from 4-7 on Des Moines' top-rated sports station, 1460 KXnO. Williams, a 2007 graduate of Iowa State’s Greenlee School of Journalism, is the former publisher of the old CycloneNation.com (Scout.com). He has also written for the Des Moines Register, the Ames Tribune, CycloneReport.com and is the former sports director at KMA Radio. When Williams isn’t working, you can usually find him doing something outdoors with his wife Ashley, daughter Camryn, and Golden Retriever Dierks. He enjoys golfing, boating, country music, the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Braves and is passionate about any and all motor sports so finding Williams at a local dirt track is very common.
