AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women’s basketball head coach Bill Fennelly has announced the addition of junior college center Rosie Gambino to the 2013-14 recruiting class. Gambino is the fifth member of the class.

“We are very excited to add Rosie to our program,” Fennelly said. “She made an immediate impact on all of us when she visited. Rosie comes from a great family and a program at Kishwaukee College that prepared her very well for the next level. We lost three post players to graduation this year and did not sign one early so we feel fortunate to add someone like Rosie in the spring.”

The 6-4 Oswego, Ill. native played at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill. the last two seasons, helping the Kougars to a 26-7 mark last fall, including 12-0 in the Arrowhead Conference. Gambino started 30 games and led the team with 3.4 blocks per game. Her 109 blocks was a single-season school record and was fourth nationally. She also averaged 3.9 points and 4.3 rebounds. She shot 46.6 percent from the field.

Gambino, who was a two-time academic all-conference honoree, scored a season-high 15 points against Carl Sandburg College. She had a school record 10 blocks in a win against Elgin Community College, one of eight games this season with at least five blocks.

Prior to Kishwaukee, Gambino attended Oswego High School.
