Paul Rhoads added a defensive end to his 2013 recruiting class on Monday afternoon. A big one.

Ernest Suttles, who stands tall at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds picked up the phone and called Iowa State’s head coach shortly after 3 p.m. Iowa time.

Suttles officially visited Iowa State the weekend of the Texas Tech game.

"I really liked everything. It was an overall good experience," said Suttles. "I loved the game day environment and the facilities. The facility that they are building up, the mindset of the coaches and players. It was all great."

Suttles, who hails from Tampa, (Fla.) Gaither, is currently in the middle of only his second season of playing competitive football. Combine that nuggett with the 6-foot-5, 240 pound frame and there’s reason to believe that the Cyclones might have snagged and under-the-radar gem with this one.

"I have nine other offers but only two other BCS schools," said Suttles. "It was neck and neck between Iowa State and Indiana but after taking a visit and talking, it kind of just felt like home."

Suttles is the 19th known member of Iowa State’s 2013 recruiting class.
