Iowa State picked up its 16th verbal commitment for it’s football recruiting class of 2013 on Monday evening.

At around 5 p.m., Brian Mills, a 6-foot, 195-pound linebacker out of East Ridge High School in Clermont, Fla. picked up the phone, called Paul Rhoads and delivered the news.

"My mom was big on that school," Mills told Cyclone Fanatic. "My little brother kept telling me to pick Iowa State too. My coaches like them as well so I picked them!"

Mills had additional offers from Buffalo and Navy.

"The team seems really close," said Mills. "My mom really liked the graduation rate too."

Mills, an outside linebacker, said that according to Iowa State’s defensive coaching staff, he’s projected to be a nickel back for the Cyclones at the next level.

Iowa State defensive tackles coach Shane Burnham has served as Mills’ lead recruiter.

"Coach Burnham had been telling me a lot about Iowa State, checking up on me and always making me feel welcome," said Mills. "I feel like I’m already a part of the team."

Mills said that he hasn’t scheduled his official visit to Iowa State quite yet but plans to do so in the very near future.
