If you’re a fan of drama, National Signing Day 2012 for the Iowa State football program wasn’t for you.

By the time that 9:30 a.m. rolled around, Iowa State had received all 21 National Letters of Intent from its class of 2012.

The Cyclones went 1-for-3 on what I’d categorize as down to the wire prospects on the day.

Damein Lawry, a 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back out of Dallas chose Iowa State over offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Cal, Clemson, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Notre Dame. TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Utah. There was a fear that he’d make a 11th hour switch to Missouri. Iowa State sealed the deal.

Another question mark revolved around St. Petersburg (Fla.) cornerback Gary Simon, who ended up signing with Oklahoma over Iowa State and Arkansas.

D’Vario Montgomery, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound wide receiver out of Winter Park (Fla.) ended up signing with South Florida. Montgomery officially visited Iowa State last weekend.
