Iowa State will host one of the top players from the class of 2011 on an official visit this weekend.

Norvel Pelle, a 6-foot-9 forward out of Stoneridge Prep in California, will arrive in Ames on Friday afternoon, this according to his AAU coach Brian Beard.

Pelle originally committed to St. John’s in 2011 but was ruled academically ineligible before the 2011-12 college basketball season began. Since then, he’s re-opened his recruitment and according to Beard, is considering Iowa State, San Diego State, UNLV, UTEP, LSU and UConn.

Pelle would be eligible to play in 2012 for whichever school he chooses to attend.

Iowa State assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih is heading up Pelle’s recruitment.

Pelle was ranked as the No. 1 center by Rivals.com in the class of 2011 and the nation’s 23rd overall prospect.
