Webster-Chan high on Iowa State

Mark Iowa State down as a serious player to land former Louisville commitment Negus Webster-Chan, of Huntington (W.V.) Prep. Over the last couple of weeks, the Cyclones have emerged as one of Webster-Chan’s favorites.

Webster-Chan, a 6-foot-6, 175-pound small forward who Rivals.com ranks as the 137th best player in the class of 2012, told CycloneFanatic.com on Monday that he’s especially interested in the Cyclones, Missouri and USC. Webster-Chan also mentioned that he is interested in Texas, Marquette and Providence.

Iowa State associate head coach T.J. Otzelberger has been recruiting Webster-Chan since before he de-committed from Louisville last April.

“I can talk to him about anything right now,” Webster-Chan said of Otzelberger. “Even if it’s not about basketball, I can talk to him.”

Webster-Chan said that he plans on officially visiting Iowa State sometime this fall, before making his college decision during the spring signing period.

“I am already planning on taking one with Coach Hoiberg and Coach T.J.,” Webster-Chan said.

Besides his relationship with Otzelberger and the rest of the coaching staff, another thing does stand out to Webster-Chan about Iowa State.

“I like being an underdog,” Webster-Chan said. “I like to turn heads.”

Iowa State currently has two known commitments in its class of 2012, including Georges Niang and Nkereuwem Okoro. At this point in time, Iowa State has one available scholarship open for its 2012 class.
