Future Cyclone Bevins has unlimited potential

Potential.

That’s what the Iowa State coaching staff sees in Collin Bevins, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end out of Creston, Iowa.

Bevins committed to his primary recruiter Luke Wells and head coach Paul Rhoads earlier this week.

"He (Rhoads) said that he’s excited for me to come and be a part of the Cyclone Nation," Bevins said. "He’s excited to get me in there and see what I can do when I concentrate on one sport instead of four different sports."

Bevins recorded 29 tackles (five for a loss) as a junior. He’s also a standout wrestler. Bevins was the state’s runner-up at 215-pounds in class 2A last season.

"I never thought about wrestling in college," Bevins said. "I am looking forward to focusing on one sport. I want to get better in that one sport by lifting for that one sport and not having to worry about baseball, track, wrestling or anything."

Bevins has been an Iowa State fan since early in life. He grew up in Clarinda, the hometown of former Cyclone linebacker Adam Carper.

"I liked Iowa State before then but I never really went to any games or followed them the way that I did until he (Carper) went there," Bevins said. "That was a big part in me liking Iowa State as a little kid."

Bevins said that he plans on attending every Iowa State home football game in 2011.

"The football team has a bright future. I like how Coach Rhoads treats his players and cares about everybody on his coaching staff."
