This, my friends is too good to be true.

The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series….INDY cars….the Iowa Speedway…really?

On Wednesday, Paul Rhoads and Jamie Pollard will tackle Newton’s 7/8 mile tri-oval in a “friendly” competition with the University of Iowa.

It is Pollard, Rhoads and JR Hildebrand vs. Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta, former Hawkeye hoopster Ryan Bowen and Ryan Hunter-Reay in a race.

They are calling this event the Iowa Corn Indy 250 Iowa-Iowa State Showdown. Fans are welcome to take this event in, which will go from 2-3:30.

For those of you who don’t know by now, I have a confession to make. I am a racing junkie. It is an addiction. I love the ear-splitting sound of 43 stock cars and nothing makes me giddier than the smell of gasoline.

Now I have no choice but to throw this out there. Listen up powers that be.

I’m talking to you Iowa State? Hey, Iowa Speedway, LOOK AT ME!

If for some reason Rhoads or Pollard cannot make the trip, I know of a 26-year old alum who runs this website titled www.staging.cyclonefanatic.com who could fill in admirably…

WHAT: Iowa Corn Indy 250 Iowa-Iowa State Showdown
WHERE: Iowa Speedway, located at I-80 Exit 168 in Newton, Iowa
WHEN: Wednesday, May 11
TIME: 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Williams, a 2007 graduate of Iowa State’s Greenlee School of Journalism, is the former publisher of the old CycloneNation.com (Scout.com). He has also written for the Des Moines Register, the Ames Tribune, CycloneReport.com and is the former sports director at KMA Radio.
