Quan West is one big target

By Chris Williams, CycloneFanatic.com Publisher

In looking way ahead to the 2012 Iowa State football season, the Cyclones have plenty of speed compiled at the wide receiver position. The one thing that this group lacks is size.

Quan West to the rescue!

West, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver out of Willis (Texas) committed to Iowa State’s recruiting class of 2012 on Monday. Because of that large frame, this soon-to-be senior in high school hopes that he has a chance to see some immediate playing time when he gets to Ames.

“They told me that they need a big wide receiver to put at that position,” West told CycloneFanatic.com. “I guess I am that.”

West committed to Iowa State without ever stepping on campus. As a junior at Willis, West caught 38 passes for 783 yards and 10 touchdowns. That’s an average of 20.6 yards per reception.

Tom Herman was Iowa State’s lead recruiter for West.

“I really like Coach Herman a lot. He’s a really cool guy,” West said. “It is an up and coming program. I like the offense that they run. They just need a little more firepower. I think that we can become a really, really good team.”

West said that over the summer months, he plans on attending numerous speed camps in attempt to get his game ready for the Big 12.

“I’m going to train a lot, work on my route running and stuff like that.”

West chose Iowa State over offers from Tulsa, Western Michigan and Colorado State.
