ISU announces that James Capello will transfer

Sophomore Cyclone quarterback James Capello is transferring to Tiffin University in Ohio, according to and Iowa State release.

“James has informed me of his decision to transfer from Iowa State,” Paul Rhoads said in the release. “I told him that we respect his decision and wish him a bright future.”

Capello had three carries for 27 yards and a touchdown last season.

Chris’ Take: This isn’t a surprise. Rumblings of this story have been floating around Ames ever since the conclusion of spring ball. Capello, who had a reputation among his teammates as a grinder, wants to actually play football over the next couple of years. Can you blame him? With two juniors ahead of him and a redshirt freshman breathing down his neck, PT was going to be at a premium at Iowa State. Don’t forget about true freshman Sam Richardson entering the mix later on this summer. No matter how everything was eventually going to go down, seeing the field at quarterback was going to be difficult for Capello to do while wearing the cardinal and gold. He saw the writing on the wall.
