Pro Day Results: Franklin’s stock rises

Former Iowa State tight end Collin Franklin had a lot to prove on Pro Day in Ames. Yeah…I’d say that he shut his critics up. Iowa State’s leading receiver in 2010 threw down some monstrous numbers on Tuesday. That data that should greatly improve his chances of being picked in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Remember how Franklin was recently snubbed and not invited to the NFL Combine? Franlkin bench-pressed 225-pounds 28 times on Tuesday, which was more reps than any player who was invited to and participated in the combine. Michigan State’s Charlie Gantt and Tennessee’s Luke Stocker each went for 27 reps.

Franklin’s broad jump of 10’4 would have placed him second at the combine behind Nevada’s Virgil Green.

Franklin’s 40-yard dash time of 4.69 would have placed him seventh among combine participants. Franklin’s vertical leap of 34.5 would have tied him for sixth in that category.

MORE PRO DAY NOTES

–  Ben Lamaak certainly didn’t hurt himself on Tuesday, putting up solid numbers across the board. Lamaak’s versatility is his biggest asset. Lamaak’s 26 bench press reps would have put him just outside of the top 15 at the combine. Clearing 25 in that category was the magic number. The big man weighed in at 302-pounds.

– Alexander Robinson will likely be disappointed with his 40-yard dash performance on Pro Day. Last week, A-Rob told me that his goal was to run in the low to mid 4.4’s. Robinson’s best 40-time from Tuesday was 4.53.

– David Sims echoed his strong combine performance on Pro Day by putting up 26 bench press reps. Sims’ 40-yard dash was clocked at 4.52.

– Surprise performer of the day? That award might go to Mike O’Connell, who put up the highest vertical leap number of the day, at 37.5 inches. O’Connell notably ran a 4.59 40-yard dash.

– Former Iowa State quarterback Austen Arnaud did not participate in any running or jumping drills on Tuesday, as he’s still rehabbing from knee surgery.
