IOWA STATE NOTES

–       Texas Tech appears to be a decent matchup for Iowa State’s struggling rush defense. After four games, the Cyclones currently rank 108th nationally against the run. The Red Raiders are America’s 116th best rush offense, averaging only 70-yards per game. Keep in mind that the Red Raiders don’t keep it on the ground very often though. They’ve only attempted 85 runs in three games and are averaging only 2.47 yards per carry. Iowa State’s red zone defense is ranked ninth nationally and first in the Big 12. The Cyclones ranked second nationally in that category at the end of last season.

–       Linebacker A.J. Klein is the Big 12’s second leading tackler through four games. The sophomore is averaging 10.25 tackles per game. That mark ranks him 22nd in the country. Klein ranks 27th nationally in interceptions, with two. He is tied with four other players at that spot. Crazy enough, Klein has returned both of those picks for touchdowns. Klein is the only player in America who has returned two interceptions for touchdowns at this point in the season.

–       Jake Knott was named the Big 12’s Defensive Player of the Week yesterday. Knott is currently tied for fifth on the Big 12’s tackle chart. The sophomore is averaging 8.75 tackles per game. Knott is tied for second on the nation’s interceptions chart. He has picked of three passes in four games.
