McKnight makes his YMCA CCL debut

By Chris Williams, CycloneFanatic.com Publisher

Soon-to-be Iowa State freshman Eric McKnight made his season debut in the YMCA Capital City League last night. For the last few weeks, McKnight has been fighting a high ankle sprain.

During his first league competition on Wednesday night, the 6-foot-9, 215-pound forward went 3-of-6 from the field, scoring eight points, recording seven rebounds and dishing out five assists.

McKnight plays for Tim Vorland Photography and is a teammate of fellow Cyclone freshman, Melvin Ejim. Ejim continued to build his reputation as one of the league’s best last night by scoring 24 points and ripping down 10 rebounds. Ejim notably went 12-of-17 from the free throw line. He didn’t shoot well though, going 6-of-19 from the field.

Iowa State junior Scott Christopherson had another impressive outing for Peak Performance on Wednesday, leading the way with 27 points. Jamie Vanderbeken, Christopherson’s teammate, scored 18 points, while going 4-of-5 from 3-piont range.

One Cyclone who has turned a lot of heads this summer is walk-on Bubu Palo. This red-shirt freshman had another impressive night for Medical Oncology & Hematology Associates, scoring 24 points while going 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Palo also recorded five rebounds and four assists.

Future Cyclone Chris Babb scored 21 points for Granite Transformations last night. He also ripped down eight rebounds and handed out seven assists.

Diante Garrett, DeMarcus Phillips and Jake Anderson did not participate last night.
