Iowa State had one giant media gathering today in the Jacobson Athletic Building auditorium. Bill Fennelly, Kevin Jackson and Greg McDermott all met with members of the local media to discuss the big upcoming week in Cyclone athletics.

CycloneFanatic.com was there taking notes. Here’s our first of three notebook updates that will be posted throughout the afternoon. This first segment features Iowa State women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly.

The Cyclones went to Chicago and won the Doubletree White Invitational over the weekend with wins over Penn and the College of Charleston.

Tomorrow night, Iowa State (3-1) will host Mississippi Valley State (2-1) in Hilton Coliseum. Here are some notes from today’s press conference with Fennelly.

– Fennelly told reporters that Amanda Zimmerman and Genesis Lightbourne are close to 100 percent but their lack of conditioning from being injured is what is holding them back.

– Fennelly said that finding a consistent rotation is a hard thing for him to do right now. “We’re going to keep playing 10 kids and try to find out who we can count on,” Fennelly said. Fennelly also said that we could all be having this same conversation in March.

– Fennelly pointed out that this is a big week for his basketball team because it is the last time that they’d be able to practice for four days before a game again this year. Fennelly said that they purposely scheduled fewer games in November this season so that his young basketball team could get ready for the Big 12 gauntlet.

A Q&A with Fennelly will be posted on CycloneFanatic.com Tuesday morning.
