Week 8 Big 12 Power Poll

It seems like everybody puts out their own “Power Rankings” these days. I figure I might as well.

I have to be honest with you Fanatics though. It was TOUGH this week. This is what I came up with. Feel free to post your own. Let’s compare.

1 – Texas – The Horns made Mizzou look really bad last night. I wasn’t sold on this team before yesterday. I think that they’re a legitimate national title contender now.

2 – Oklahoma State – The Cowboys have stayed surprisingly consistent without their top offensive threat, Dez Bryant. Their win over Baylor was expected and a showdown with Texas looms next weekend.

3 – Oklahoma – The Sooners made a statement by blowing out Kansas on Saturday afternoon. That’s that the South is still a lot better than the North.

4 – Kansas State – This team just keeps winning. Their conference schedule hasn’t been crazy-tough so far but again, they keep winning. Bill Snyder has impressed me up to now. The Wildcats, like Iowa State are one win away from a bowl game.

5 – Texas Tech – The Raiders surprised everyone when Texas A&M came into Lubbock to knock them off after that giant win over Nebraska last week. I’m going to be very honest with you right now. This conference is a jumbled mess starting now.

6 – Texas A&M – The Aggies win in Lubbock was impressive, especially when considering how terrible they were the week before in Manhattan.

7 – Iowa State – The Cyclones have won two conference games in a row after shocking Nebraska on Saturday.

8 – Kansas – The Jayhawks threw away a giant opportunity for the North on Saturday. This team is struggling.

9 – Nebraska – It’s amazing how much this team has fallen in the span of about 10 days.

10 – Colorado –Their recent win over Kansas puts them at number 10. That’s it. This team hasn’t shown anything else all season long.

11 – Missouri – The Tigers are probably better than Colorado but they haven’t proven it yet.

12 – Baylor – The Bears are back to being the Big 12’s whipping boy.

Chris was hired as Cyclone Fanatic’s publisher in the fall of 2009. He is Iowa State football's postgame show host on the Cyclone Radio Network and can be heard daily from 4-7 on Des Moines' top-rated sports station, 1460 KXnO. Williams, a 2007 graduate of Iowa State’s Greenlee School of Journalism, is the former publisher of the old CycloneNation.com (Scout.com). He has also written for the Des Moines Register, the Ames Tribune, CycloneReport.com and is the former sports director at KMA Radio. When Williams isn’t working, you can usually find him doing something outdoors with his wife Ashley, daughter Camryn, and Golden Retriever Dierks. He enjoys golfing, boating, country music, the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Braves and is passionate about any and all motor sports so finding Williams at a local dirt track is very common.
