Jeremy Crabtree of Rivals.com is reporting that the Iowa State football program has secured the commitment of Adrian Bennett, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety out of Houston, Tex.
Bennett chose Iowa State over offers from Minnesota, New Mexico and Louisiana-Monroe.
My Take: Bennett joins Durrell Givens as the second defensive back committed to Paul Rhoads’ 2010 recruiting class. Bennett has 4.5 speed and the size to possibly play linebacker in the future. Of Iowa State’s 12 known commitments up to now, only three of the prospects are true defensive players. That’s what makes me happy about Bennett’s decision. Defensive recruiting will be and needs to be a priority over the next few months and this is a great start. With Bennett, Iowa State picks up a versatile player who can play more than one position in the future.
